The Glossary
Visa Waiver National
A visa-waiver (also called visa-exempt/ non-visa) national is an individual who does not need to obtain a visa prior to their journey, allowing them to arrive directly at a country's port of entry (such as an airport, seaport, or land border). Upon arrival, they can present themselves to immigration officials and request permission to enter the country.
This privilege is typically granted through bilateral agreements between countries or regional arrangements. While visa-exempt travelers avoid the pre-travel application process, they must still satisfy entry requirements, carry valid travel documents, and may be subject to questioning by border officials who ultimately decide whether to grant entry.
